I’m liking the show, keep it up.
Couple of quick questions.
Will you be doing themed shows like Sci-fi, Pulp or Halloween/Horror? Will you be doing shows on d20 Modern/Future/Past, Call of Cthulhu d20, Monte Cook’s World of Darkness (Love that game), Starblazer Adventures, DC Adventures, Buffy, or other specific systems/genres?
Not enough shows do that anymore. I think Lonnie and Chuck used to do that on the old Dragon’s Landing podcast, but everything now seems to be mostly Pathfinder vs 4e discussions and general DMing or character optimization advice.
This is a great question. Fortunately for us, we like a wide variety of games and are open to trying new things. So, it wouldn’t be out of the question for us to discuss different game systems from episode to episode.
So far we’ve talked about Pathfinder and today will be Warhammer Fantasy, but we also play Dark Heresy, Warhammer 40K, Malifaux and Necromunda. I personally have the following on my shelf waiting for me to run something: Iron Kingdoms, Burning Wheel, Savage Worlds, and Ars Magica.
I would also like to give attention to the independent games and games that are flying under the radar. Games like Dogs in the Vineyard and The Esoterrorists would be two that caught my eye awhile back, and recently Spirit of the Century.
I think we’re seeing a lot of 4E vs. Pathfinder because they’re the heavyweights right now and it’s hard to ignore that big elephant in the room.
Hopefully Flagons & Dragons can steer clear of becoming just an advice show, or just a product review show. We’d like to find our own niche. We’d like to introduce listeners to new things. We’d like to do things our way, and that way may not be the norm. With any luck, people will find that fun and interesting.
Thanks for comment Geek Gazette. It’s through questions and suggestions listeners give us that we can make the podcast better and better.
Keep rolling those dice!
Love the show guys, and I couldn’t agree more. Pathfinder is a lovely game system that really enhances and picks up where 3.5 left off. 4.0 to me was specifically designed to capture the MMO (specifically WoW) players. Unfortunately in the process they (Wizards) have alienated their core (long time supporters) fan base. So it comes to no surprise that Pathfinder is winning all the awards and outselling (at least in the game store I frequent) DnD 4.0. It’s not a bad game, it just isn’t DnD in my opinion.
Heya guys. I really enjoyed this ‘cast, I listened to it … three times, I think? Good stuff.
I really appreciated hearing you folks compare and contrast Pathfinder and DnD4e. You nailed some of my perceptions of both game systems straight-up and dead-on. It was a pleasure to listen to the discussion.
Carl, you typed “… We’d like to find our own niche. We’d like to introduce listeners to new things. We’d like to do things our way, and that way may not be the norm.”
It’s working for me. I hope you guys can keep the enthusiasm up, and keep cranking these ‘casts out. I appreciate your efforts!
